an email to a compadre

this is sorethroat, reporting to you live, from the College Library Across the Road from Prof. Hottie's Office.

Well, fans, the attempted "drop in and say hello" maneuver did not go as planned - in fact, you could say the whole idea was a bust. why is that, you ask? well, turns out that sorethroat's original intuition (that prof. hottie did not have any classes on thursday and would therefore probably not even show up at the office) was likely correct, as the door was closed (ooooh, smackdown!) and that little "office hours" sign (obviously a relic from last semester) was there only to taunt. but wait! there's more! another realization smacked sorethroat harrrrd as she once again boarded the elevator of shame - had she hung around yesterday, prof. hottie would have probably showed up - he even might have been, *gasp* _in the bathroom_ while she was mumbling to herself outside and unlocking her bike. but the fear of "getting caught" was too much for her, causing her gut instinct to cry "flee! flee!" up to her brain. but then again, we have to give the gal some credit - she did not sit in the chairs directly outside the elevator to wait, in some sort of ritualistic stalker's "greeting". waiting for your prey to arrive is just about as bad as stalking it.

so...what was sorethroat's next move?

well, she pulled the only card she could...the email. the frustration, however, provided a vital deterrent to the writer's block she had experienced yesterday, though - she whipped off a simple, direct request - "Would you be available to meet tomorrow or next week?Sorry for the short notice..." and had only a fraction of a moment's hesitation pressing that "send" button. whatta comeback. you gotta love persistence.

so, one can only sit and spin - in anticipation, that is - to the reply. now, we know there is a conference in n'awlins on the 18th - and sorethroat's schedule would only allow a meeting after tuesday, which is the 16th (right?) - will there be enough time? or will he come through and offer a friday spot, once again leaving sorethroat's laundry in the dust? only time will tell, sports fans....until then, this is sorethroat's conscience, signing off.
